Traditional Chinese, Mandarin, Taiwanese or Min Nan Dialect?

Traditional Chinese is currently used in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau and takes its form from standardized character forms dating back to the Han dynasty. Overseas Chinese communities generally use traditional characters, Mainland Chinese immigrants often use simplified characters.

Spoken Chinese has numerous regional and local dialects, many of which are mutually unintelligible. Cantonese is the predominant dialect in Hong Kong and Macau. It is also the only variety of Chinese to be used in official contexts. Since the early 1900s, China has officiated Standard Mandarin (Putonghua) for use in education, the media and for official communication, although a small number of state television and radio broadcasts use Cantonese in some southern China provinces.

The most common dialect spoken in Taiwan is the Min Nan (Southern Min) dialect. It is the native language of the main ethnic group in Taiwan called the Hoklo people. Min Nan is also spoken in southern Fujian, eastern Guangdong, Hainan, and southern Zhejiang, and many Overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia also speak it. This dialect lacks a standardized written form. Most Min Nan speakers learn to read Mandarin in school.

Therefore, a translation in Taiwanese or Mandarin for Taiwan will be treated as a traditional Chinese translation, and a Min Nan dialect translation is only treated as a spoken language.
