MTS was honored to participate in the GALA 2023 (Globalization and Localization Association) Conference in Dublin, Ireland, two weeks ago, marking the Association’s 20th anniversary. As a leading provider of translation and localization services, we were thrilled to be a part of this annual event that brought together industry leaders, innovators, and experts to discuss the latest trends and technologies in the field of translation.
More than 500 experts joined GALA 2023 in Dublin
Keynote Speakers and Presentations
The GALA 2023 conference featured a range of keynote speakers and presentations from top industry leaders, including David Siegel, CEO of Meetup. With his extensive experience in business and technology, Siegel’s keynote speech provided valuable insights and perspectives on decision making and bias which prove very useful in daily work and life. Our colleague Luz was one of the lucky attendees who won the lucky draw and got Siegel’s book signed by the author himself!
Other presentations covered topics such as vendor management, machine translation, leveraging technology, remote interpretation, as well as fairness and social responsibility in business practices. These sessions provided attendees with practical tips and strategies for improving their translation workflows and delivering high-quality results to their clients, while offering fair working conditions to providers.
In addition to the keynote speeches and presentations, the conference also featured a range of workshops and networking events. These sessions covered topics such as social responsibility or vendor management, among others. A speed networking session was organized in a real fun soccer world cup style sponsored by Delsur Translations, from Argentina, designed to help attendees connect with other professionals in the industry.
The conference closed with a speech from Marco Trombetti, CEO of Translated. Trombetti discussed the role of humans in the relationship between translation and technology and explored the opportunities presented by the AI revolution. As the field of translation continues to evolve, it’s clear that AI and machine translation will play an increasingly important role in the industry. However, it’s important to remember that the role of humans in this relationship will always be fundamental.
As we look to the future, it’s clear that we will face new challenges and opportunities as a result of the AI revolution. While these challenges may be daunting, they also represent an opportunity for us to innovate, collaborate, and find new ways to deliver high-quality translation and localization services to our clients.
Culture Night, Fundraiser and 2024 GALA host city
The GALA 2023 conference also included a culture night, where attendees could experience the best of Irish culture, including traditional dance, music, handicrafts, and sports. This event was a great opportunity to learn more about the local culture and connect with other attendees in a relaxed and informal setting.
One of the highlights of the post-conference events was the 1920s (the decade when the modern Irish nation was born) themed fundraiser for Translators Without Borders, organized with the help of Andrew Hickson.
This event gave attendees the opportunity to support a great cause while enjoying an evening of music, dancing, and fun. More than 6000 euros were raised for the cause!
Where will GALA 2024 be held?
The first day of the conference, GALA committee member Jose Palomares unveiled the host city of GALA 2024. It is no other than the land of flowers, light and love as the song goes. No idea yet? Any bets? Alrighty, drumroll, please… GALA 2024 will be held in Valencia in March 2024!
