TEDx MXIS Countdown was successfully held on 24th November at SM LifeStyle Center in Xiamen.
Six industry experts (designers, researchers, entrepreneurs, community members) from Germany, Colombia, Ghana, Singapore, the UK and China presented practical solutions to the climate crisis, ranging from eating and consumption habits, electricity use, clothing and housing and urban gardening to product design and sustainable materials.
Founded in 1984 in the United States, the TED Talk Conference is about “ideas worth spreading”. TEDx is a public service event organised by TED enthusiasts under the authority of TED headquarters, a sub-project of TED. The “TEDx Countdown” event aims to bring people together to tackle the climate crisis and work towards a better future.
The TEDx event was organised by Manila Xiamen International School (Xiamen) with the participation of several international schools in Xiamen. Honourable guests, the Consul General to the Philippines in Xiamen Ms. Maria Antonina Mendoza-Oblena and MXIS Headmaster Dr. Mildred A. Go offered their opening remarks and welcome address.
Students from several international schools of Xiamen delighted the audience with spectacular live music and group dance performances, all related to Earth conservation.
Young artists from different international schools in Xiamen took part in an art and photography exhibition with the central topic of environmental protection. A jury of international Xiamen-based artists and photographers appointed the winners for each category.
Mr. Raymond Mitchel Africa, educator at Manila Xiamen International School, appreciated students’ involvement in the organization of the event in his social media:
“Congratulations to Kevin Yeo, Alex Wong and Morris Lin (Grade 10 students) for organizing this wonderful event. This conference is not just a platform to share ideas and present talks but it became a celebration of diversity and reunion of Xiamen community members, both local and international. Thank you to all students, teachers, parents, and guests for coming to witness this momentous event. To all the sponsors, SM Xiamen, Manila Xiamen International School, Evertrade, and Master Translations, my sincerest and deepest gratitude for making this event possible. And to all the speakers and performers, great work. Let’s make Xiamen a clean and green community.”
